CPS 2024 Annual General Meeting
Curtin University
10:00 AM – 01:00 PM
-Take up a role at CPS in 2025- You've been watching all the incredible events the Curtin Palestinian Society has been doing, and want to start making events of your own! Read about the roles, the time commitments, our politics and our priorities via the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12IqDpGMA3kGepQoMOJbsB5UtuR-vUZoEHu19FKIzE4Y/viewform?edit_requested=true&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAablMoafmF0Fu1XSbYYsv6m1dgcuOm3E8uh_s6m8wJ20g2UHVOj6aMIfkNs_aem_beginCbP_251CRwNLb1dGA Thank you for an incredible year CPS Fam. Let’s bring on the 2025 Committee! Time commitment? This is entirely dependant on the 2025 committee. Want to meet once a week? Go for it. Want to meet once a semester? Also go for it. These are completely autonomous discussions you will have with your peers and decide together. In 2024, our committee met once prior each event.  Exposure Being Palestinian is not easy. We understand that there may be Palestinians with family in the West Bank or in '48 lands and may have concerns about being too public. That is completely fine. There are a few things we do to mitigate concerns: Not publish last names Not publish photos of members that prefer not to Turn down media interviews Keep club matters strictly confidential Roles All training provided. No experience needed. Just passion!  President: At CPS we work as a team, but as President you will generally be the first point of contact. All contact is through the CPS email or social media however. Your job is to make sure things are running smooth, and your committee is sticking to the club ethos. You will be the proactive bone in the club. Vice President: Your job is to mainly oversee the committee. This means messaging a committee member that might have gone a bit MIA, or checking in with the President to make sure they're going okay.  Secretary: Paperwork! This means taking meeting minutes, making sure the TidyHQ looks gorgeous and helping with any membership inquiries. Treasurer: Money habibi. Your job is to make sure the bank account matches up with our recorded finances, and to hold onto that club card. Invoices need paying? Your job. Invoices need making? Your job. Charity needs sending? Your job. Everything can be done from your phone however with the bank app. Events Manager: After meetings, there tend to be jobs to do. For example, messaging volunteers, talking to the Curtin Student Guild about how to get an event together, or coming up with amazing event ideas. Social Media Manager: Your job is to maintain our lovely social media. This means Facebook and Instagram. Canva Premium subscription included. Events Volunteer The 2024 CPS Committee will always be on standby if you need help.  What will the AGM look like? *Scary words coming up* 1) Lodge this form, by indicating what you would like to run for. 2) Attend the AGM. This is necessary. We need to know you mean business. Not attending the AGM won't look good! 3) Explain to your peers why you would like to join the CPS committee.  4) A vote is taken for each position. You can vote too, and vote for yourself. 5) 2025 committee announced at the AGM. 6) Within that month, a handover meeting will happen. This is where you will be given full training to get started! 7) You will have your first meeting with your new committee, and start planning events for the year! We usually aim to plan things before the year starts so you can enjoy an easy year. What are you waiting for? Make your ancestors proud and fill in this form. Know a friend that's keen? Get them to sign up too! You don't have to be Palestinian to join, but just need to have a commitment to the identity (and need to be a Curtin student in 2025). Location will be emailed closer to the day.

National Month of Action
Curtin University
29-09-2024 12:00 AM – 29-10-2024 12:00 AM
Film Screening this Friday! The Curtin Student Guild with its Palestinian community on campus through the Curtin Palestinian Society, have responded to a national grassroots movement and call for a month of action for Gaza during the month of October. It is one year too late. Over 40 000 Palestinians have been killed, over 15 000 of them children, and there are no universities left in Gaza. The Australian government has taken no adequate action to stop the genocide, and is therefore directly complicit. The events during this month will focus on advocacy, welfare, education and solidarity. Witnessing genocide for a year straight from our phones is not normal. It is important to understand you are not alone when it comes to your mental health and wellbeing. If you are in need of support, there are services available, including: * Student Wellbeing Advisory Service (8:30am - 4:30pm / Monday - Friday) on 1800 244 043 * Psychological and Counselling Services in Building 109 (Reception 8:30am - 4:30pm, Appointments 8am - 4pm / Monday - Thursday, 8am - 3pm / Fridays) * Lifeline on 13 11 14 (24/7) * Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 (24/7) * 13YARN on 13 92 76 (24/7 crisis support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders) For any Enquiries or questions, please contact the Curtin Student Guild President at president@guild.curtin.edu.au

Born in Gaza Film Screening ft. Guest Speaker
Bankwest Theatre
06:00 PM – 08:00 PM
For Palestinians, seeing family and friends lose their lives and futures in Gaza is part of a 75 year reality that has turned into a nightmare. However the Israeli attacks on Gaza can seem far away for most people, especially here on this continent. With Palestinian refugees in our communities and circles, join us and learn to see the humans beyond the statistics. Join Students for Refugees and the Curtin Palestinian Society in a free film screening of Born in Gaza, by award winning director Hernán Zin. Following the lives of 10 young Palestinian children in Gaza, the film examines how the lives of these children continue to be transformed forever. We will be joined by valued Palestinian and Gazan researcher Samiha Olwan, whose insight will shed light on the current reality in Gaza, and how narratives around palestinians can often be dehumanising, and to answer any questions you may have after the film! 👉🏼When: 19th April 👉🏼Time: 6:00-7:30PM 👉🏼Where: Bankwest 200A Theatre, Curtin University 👉🏼Tickets: tinyurl.com/BornInGazaCurtin Spots are limited!
